Dante's Inferno as a Video Game???

As i was surfing the web i came across an unusual title that caught my eye Dante's Inferno - "God of War meets Dead Space" It was an interesting find especially on a gamming website. EA games has planned to make Dante's Inferno as an adventure / shooter game a supposed mix of God of War and Dead Space. I wonder how the book will be portrayed through an adventure / shooter game, but lets just hope that they dont get too creative, that it just ends up as a big mess.

28 January 2009

The theme of Everyman is you can not have what you have earned but what you have given. In tests given to his friends asking them to jouney with him before his life ends to see if they would follow. But none of them agreed to go with him turning their backs and walking away. He did not know what do so he continued looking for more of his friends and kin to go with on ther journey.

All of his friends and family left him to go alone. "If death were the messenger for no man that is living today i will not go that loath journey not for the father begat me!" for they beleived that he was crazy to ask them to go on a journey with him even if the messenger that sent him on the quest was by death himself. But only his knowledge, strngth, beauty, and good deeds followed him. "and through this pilgrimage be never so strong, i will never part you fro." they did not

The things he has earned like, friends, kin, and worldly possesions do not follow him on his pilgramage. but the things he has given others like beauty, knowledge, strength, and good will followed him without their hearts wavering on the journey to the end.

Beowulf LRJ #1

In the story of Beowulf the people are shown to value their king and respect, this is shown in the story from this passage. "Behavior thats admired is the path to power among people everywhere."(Seamus Heaney, Beowulf line 25) They value their community and the mead hall which is shown to be elegant and large representing their strength and the sense of community. "it was like old times in the echoing hall, proud to talk and the people happy."(line 642)
Here are some of the many alliterations in Beowulf "Then out of the night came the shadow stalker, stealthy and swift."(line 703) the alliterations in the story add to the eerie feel of the story and it also gives the sentence more meaning. This sentence "Nor did the creature keep him waiting but struck suddenly and started in."(line 39) adds to the suspense that was building up as Grendel was lurking in the village. Alliterations in the story play a major role in making the story more interesting.
The kennings in the story of Beowulf gives more meaning to the item they are trying to describe. Like "hauling his doom to the demons' mere."(line 845) meaning that Grendel's death has come . "darkness gathered again over the world and stealthy night shapes came stealing forth under the cloud murk"(line 649) This kenning shows that the earth was covered in darkness once again as they await for Grendel to attack.

Antigone Paper

Antigone is proven guilty of the crimes of burial of Polyneices which was forbidden by Creon. Antigone, knowing of the laws and consequences proceeded with burring Polyneices and not denying any of the crimes committed. According to the guard you said that “I admit I did it. I won’t deny that.”(Antigone 500) Why would you commit such a crime of burying the ememy. The laws were very clear “His body must lie in the fields, a sweet tresure for the carrion birds.” (21) We have witness that claims that you were “Spreading thirsty dust onto the flesh and undertaking all appropriate rites.”(264-265)
She had performed a sacred burial for the enemy that was trying to take the throne of Thebes. By law she should be put to death because the king had put out a set of laws that will never be broken. Ismene nearly followed you because of your persuasive talk to help but she being wise and intelligent was not beguiled by your tempting words. You have not only disgraced your siblings but the family and the entire royalty. But sentencing you to death would be to harsh since you were doing this out of your own heart so Antigone should be removed from the land of Thebes and to never return.

LRJ 2

As the two siblings fought in the fields of Thebes for a very long period of time it finally ended in a bloody stalemate. Both were critically injured and they both passed away on the field. In the celebration of their victory and their new king of Thebes, Creon ordered a military funeral for Eteocles as he did not for Polyneices. He warns the people of Thebes not to interfere with the body of Polyneics, “His body must lie in the fields, a sweet tresure for the carrion birds.” (Antigone 21) But Antigone could not let this happen for she still cared for her dear brother Polyneices. Antigone brings Ismene to speak with her in secrecy, she asks for her assistance in the burial of her brother. While Ismene questions her motives Antigone has well decided what she was going to do”Yes. I’ll do my duty to my brother and yours as well.” (59 - 60) Ismene is so afraid of breaking the laws that he left Antigone to go alone.
The next day a guard arrives at the palace to tell Creon of some bad news, “It’s about the corpse. Someone has buried it and disappeared.” (282 - 283) Creon sends the guard to investigate who buried the corpse. Quickly he returns the next day to report of his findings “This here’s the one who carried out the act.We caught her as she was burying the corpse.” (432 -433) The image of this quote brings of importance because no one would ever attempt to break the law made by the king himself but if so how could it be of a women. Creon is quite surprised himself as he realizes what was happening in front of him, anognorisis fill Creons head as he could not belive his own niece would betray him. “You there you with your face bent down towards the ground, what do you say? Do you deny you did this or admit it?” (441 - 443) Creon sentences her to death as he is a man of his word and would not go back on what he has said not to do.
Haimon goes to see Creon about what has happened, Creon assures Haimon that losing Antigone would not affect his life. “Indeed, my son, that’s how your heart should always be resolved, to stand behind your father’s judgment.” (638 – 640) Creon just sees women as objects that can be replaced but Haimon sees it differently. Haimon begins to question Creons actions in defense of Antigone. Haimon leaves angrily threatening his life if Antigone is hurt. Creon did not believe so but a great prophet prophesized many deaths to come. In response Creon went to do the right things but when he arrives at the dungeon Antigone was locked in he finds the Antigone has committed suicide and that his son has done so to. The sudden perpetia overwhelms Creon with emotions as when he returns to the kingdom he finds of the loss of his wife as well leaving him in grief.
